WHAT IS SECRET?

WHAT IS THE SECRET RF PROCEDURE LIKE?

Secret RF is a easy, safe and effective procedure that can be performed in a quick, 15-minute treatment session. During the treatment, you will feel a slight heating and some pressure on the treatment area. For most patients, the treatment is tolerable but your physician will work with you to maximize your comfort level. Prior to the procedure, your provider will apply a numbing cream to the treatment area to increase comfort during the treatment.

HOW MANY SECRET RF TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Patients typically need 3-4 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart, to achieve optimal results. Most patients report seeing improvement after the second treatment however results are optimized 3 months after the last treatment.

HOW LONG DOES A TREATMENT LAST?

Results vary based on the individual. To maintain results, maintenance treatments are recommended every 12-18 months.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER MY PROCEDURE?

After the treatment, an ointment will be applied to the skin and you will be asked to refrain from wearing make up for several hours. Any minor redness or swelling resulting from treatment will subside within 12-24 hours. After the treatment, you can expect to return to normal activities.

Clinical Results Using the Secret™ RF Fractional Microneedle System for Skin Revitalization

Background

The Secret RF System (Cutera, Inc., Brisbane, CA, USA) is intended for use in patients who desire skin improvement in fine lines, wrinkles, photodamage and scars. A large majority of patients are bothered by these concerns and many are interested in treatments with little to no downtime. Microneedling RF is a minimally-invasive treatment that has been shown to be a safe and effective option for revitalizing photodamaged skin and scars.1

The Secret RF system is a new fractional RF microneedling platform that is unique due to its ability to selectively deliver RF energy at varying intensities and depth based on the patient’s concern and treatment area. Secret RF uses two types of single-use disposable needle tips: non-insulated and semi-insulated. Non-insulated needles deliver RF energy over the entire length of the needle which heats from bottom to top to deliver a controlled injury throughout all layers of the tissue. Semi-insulated needles concentrate the RF energy at the end of the needle to target deeper skin concerns while protecting the epidermis from any heat or thermal injury. Reducing the heat in the epidermis also provides additional safety for darker skin types. These features ensure patient comfort while directly targeting the patient’s skin concerns throughout the epidermis and dermis.

Treatment

After obtaining informed consent and medical history from the patients, topical anesthesia was applied for 30 minutes before cleansing the skin. Test spots were performed on each area to determine the settings for achieving the correct endpoint of mild to moderate erythema with edema around each spot. One to two passes with 2/3 overlap was used for revitalization treatments and two to three passes with 50% overlap was used for areas with acne scars, deep wrinkles or folds.

Hylauronic Serum was applied immediately post treatment and patients were instructed to wait at least four hours to wash or use cream on the treated area. Additionally, patients were instructed to avoid sun exposure and heat for two days, and to avoid sun irritants for several days.

Clinical Results

Eleven patients were treated two times at a four week interval. Photographs were taken at baseline, 4 weeks after the first treatment and 6 weeks after the second treatment. At the 6-week follow-up, all patients reported smoother, softer skin, a more awakened appearance as well as a more even tone to their skin. Results for a subset of 5 patients are shown in Figures 1-5 and corresponding treatment parameters for each case can be found in Charts 1-3.

Conclusions

The Secret RF microneedling device achieved significant reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, and resulted in an improvement in skin quality following a series of two treatments. Our observations support that the Secret RF is a safe and effective option for patients suffering from aging skin that are looking for a quick, comfortable treatment with little to no downtime.
